Optical Lab
The LGM laboratory, as one of the founding group of the CIMAINA center of excellence of the Milano University, has contributed to the setting up of an advanced laboratory for photonic studies and spectroscopic characterization of samples.
The main equipment of the laboratory are:
- Three laser sources (Argon ion, He-Cd and
NdYAG) that can provide wavelengths from the near infrared to the near UV
(Continuous wavelength: 514.5nm, 488nm, 442nm, 363.8nm, 351.1nm, 325nm; Pulsed wavelength: 1064nm, 532nm, 355nm, 266nm);
- Two spectroscopic systems (Acton SP-2558-9N and Acton SP-275) equipped with liquid nitrogen cooled CCD and phototubes;
- A fluorimeter (Jobin Yvone Fluorolog-3) equipped with a Xenon lamp and a CCD.
The main characterizations that can be performed on powders, liquids or thin films samples are:
- Multi wavelengths Raman spectroscopy;
- Photoluminescence spectroscopy;
- Excitation Spectroscopy;
- Fluorescence (from 50 ps) and Phosphorescence (to 500 ms) Lifetime measurements;
- Absolute and Relative Photoluminescence Quantum Efficiency Measurements;
- Polarization Studies of Oriented thin Films;
- Second- and Third Harmonic Generation Measurements of powders and oriented thin films.
